Wilkinson's catalyst or Tris(triphenylphosphine)rhodium(I) chloride is a red-brown solid that is soluble in hydrocarbon solvents such as benzene and dichloromethane.
Applications
Wilkinson's catalyst or Tris(triphenylphosphine)rhodium(I) chloride is best known as an olefin hydrogenation catalyst.
It also is used as a catalyst for hydroborations, isomerizations, oxidations, and cross-coupling processes involving alkenes, alkynes, halogenated organics, and organometallic reagents (e-EROS Encyclopedia of Reagents for Organic Synthesis, DOI:http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/047084289X.rc162s.pub2/abstract)
